Blog #5
If had to choose a character to be my friend, it would be Michael. I chose him since he can read emotions. Sometimes not saying anything is better than ever. There is also times where I can not findmy words, but if I have Michael as a friend he can tell right away. This is not the only reason why I chose Michael. I chose him since he dealt with problems that I would like how to deal with. Michael is the type of guy that would make an effort to comfort and cheer me up if I was having bad day. Through out the three books, I find that he is the one who will tell me that if I am doing something wrong and would not be afraid of the consequences. I also find that he is the one to go to if I ever want to have fun and would talk for hours on the phone. Michael reminds me of my best friend. My best friend and I talk through facetime without saying a word sometimes, but it was one of those comfortable silence. We do this since she lives all the way from North Vancouver and soon Toronto.

When the case that the naturals is slowly being revealed, I felt estatic and excitement. Thorughout the book, all the person of interests are all shown and had their bit on the book. Though some more than other. The book makes me guess as well on who can be the possible UNSUB. Towards the end of the book, Barnes (author) narrowed down my guess through the characters. Through the profiling of Cassie and Dean, I narrowed down Aaron Shaw and Beau Donovan. I also love how Barnes would have a hook at the end of each chapter, making me want to read more and more. Even though some chapters were just filler, it still left a cliffhanger. Books like this are the ones that I absolutely love. By reading the very first book of this series, I got to know myself a bit more. I learned that murder mysteries are the books that I absolutely love. Before discovering the series, all I read were books that somewhat interested me. I tend not to finish those books for I never get pass 5 chapters. Finding out what kind of book I like is important to me since I do love reading online, but holding a book physically and turning the pages is much better than swiping on a screen.

In the book, the setting was in Las Vegas. This place was a significant place for one of the character, Sloane. She became good with numbers and a genius by being forced to play casino games. By being in Vegas bought back bad memmories. That is also the time where she saw her father again for a long time. In the book, Sloane's father clearly did not want her to be near his family and him. This news bought sadness to her. Although, she met her half-brother while being in Vegas and found out that he was nothing like their father. Sloane felt acceptance and happiness to find out that someone who is actually blood related to her, cares for Sloane. The setting is also important since the murder is happening here and it is somehow connected to the Majesty Hotel and Casino. Though this can happen anywhere also. The book revealed that a cult is somehow involve in this murder case that dates back to 1800s. This means that this cult have been killing nine people in seven different ways every three years. With this information, this means in three years the cult will start killing again but in a different location.

The book started during New Year and that is when Cassie seen his dad for the very first time since she was a little girl. Though, her dad brought, in a way a good and bad news. The police said they have found her mother's grave. Throughout the book the father would call to update Cassie on her mother's case while the FBI gave her the files and picture of her mother. Without her 4 other friends that she catch murderers with, Cassie wouldn't be able to deal with this properly. No one that Cassie knows how she is feeling and how to deal with it. However, her friends in the program helped her by understanding what it must be like and how she can cope. Another way that Cassie dealt with her mother's case is just by forgerting about it for just a moment. She distracted herself with the Vegas case but there are always reminders of her mom. Though she did not ignore those reminders but awknowledge them.

I can relate to this quote for I have felt the same whe I first came to Canada. I was extremely shy and kept the unfamilliar kids that surrounds me. I still didn't know how children, that were the same age as me, acted each other and I had no clue of their cultures here in Canada. When I first came to school was hard, I'd say I knew people but I did not have friends until the following year; sixth grade. That was when three people broke through my wall and they were able to break free the real me. This is also a part of the theme in the book. The Naturals mainly had a rough start in their earlier lives and that is how they developed their incredible skills that they possesed. By being in a program with all of the members have something in common, walls are often broken down like the Berlin wall. These people understand each other to an extent where they considered each other as their homes. Every body has walls that they put up and there are people in their lives that continuously break them down with or without effort. These walls are just like a cell membrane where there are certain proteins with the right key can enter and be a benefit to the cell.

Chapter 51-63 Summaries
Chapter 51 - The 5 teens found out the contents inside the envelop that Nightshade has sent and it is a picture of a flower. Nightshade would give flowers to the person who is about to die or are related to them.
Chapter 52 - Cassie continued to profile the UNSUB while time was ticking for Michael to stand as bait for it. It seems that the UNSUB is charming enough to put people at ease and don't like hurting women.
Chapter 53 - Cassie had found the missing piece in the puzzle. 4 our of 5 of the victims, including Michael, somehow links back to Tory Howard and the Final victim is Tory and it would be in the theatre.
Chapter 54 - Cassie has told Agent Sterling that the UNSUB was Beau Donovan and he is targeting Aaron Shaw and Michael was just a stand-in. Then a scream was hear and the bloody body of Aaron Shaw was found on the floor.
Chapter 55 - The police can only hold Beau for several hours if they don't have any evidence of what he is accused of. The Naturals are determined to lock Beau in a cell for the rest of his life.
Chapter 56 - The 5 teens only have several hours to find evidence against Beau Donovan and so far they are making progress. They are trying to deduct where the plastic that the knife was wrapped in was disposed at.
Chapter 57 - The FBI and the naturals looked at the footage where 3 victims can easily be picked pocket or in another hand plant an evidence to. They have concluded that there's a chance that Thomas Wesley's assistant may have the evidence and now all they need is a witness and suggested for Tory.
Chapter 58 - Everyone knew that Tory would talk to Sloane which they successfully did. Dean and Cassie then describe to Tory about their killer and asked her to tell who their killer is and Tory revealed Beau's past.
Chapter 59 - The two FBIs interrogated Beau and in order for a reaction from Beau, the FBI started to reveal the methods of the cult. Beau showed a wound on his chest with 7 circles around a cross which was found carved on the wooden coffin of Cassie's mother and Beau was poisoned by Nightshade.
Chapter 60 - Cassie realized that she had seen Nightshade twice while in Vegas and with a child and a mother. The child was the sacred Nine of the cult.
Chapter 61 - Cassie had describe to a sketch artist how Nightshade look like and the FBI went on a manhunt while the naturals wait for news. News came back but it's not good; Nightshade injected poison to Briggs.
Chapter 62 - Nightshade was taken custody and wanted to talk to Cassie and revealed what he knows about her mother. It was revealed that Cassie's mother was a Pythia a d there could be only one.
Chapter 63 - Nightshade had killed the woman that was with him and the little girl revealed that the Masters in the cult had hired her to babysit the little girl. Cassie asked who her mommy is and the girl informed her who it was by a picture on a locket which contains a picture of Cassie's mother.

Chapter 41-50 Summaries

Every 3 years the sequence starts again with a pattern of ways to murder people: strangling, impaled, knifed, beaten, poisoned, drowning, burning alive.
Chapter 43 - They suspected that these eleven people were in a cult and suspect that the UNSUB might be in the cult or not since he was bending the riles and the rules of the cult is to not tell the cult's secret. The UNSUB bent the rules by putting the number on the wrist.
Chapter 44 - Dean, Cassie and Sloane explained everything that they have recently discovered then Judd made the decision of going back to Quantico while the FBI do the rest. The UNSib not only wants the FBI's attention, it also wants the cults.
Chapter 45 - Tory went up to Sloane as they are in the lobby checking out saying that Sloane matters to Aaron. Cassie then got a call from her dad saying the blood test results are back and confirmed that the body they found is her mothers.
Chapter 46 - Judd and the 5 teens were about to leave Vegas until Cassie saw an enveloped that did not came from the two FBI agents and found out it came from Nightshade. Cassie has deducted that Nightshade wanted them to stay in Vegas and it knows that there is a program that are the Naturals.
Chapter 47 - The safe house that the naturals are staying, in Vegas, are surrounded with armed federal agents. In her room, Cassie is profiling Nightshade and when she fell asleep she dream about Scarlett Hawkins.
Chapter 48 - Cassie recalled a memory where she met a faceless man last summer after joining the program. Cassie then asked Judd about Nightshade and she also told him that she met him before.
Chapter 49 - The Naturals couldn't bare to think a person is going to die tomorrow so they started profiling while watching the poker tournament at the Majesty's grand ballroom. They found out that there was one case that dates back tot he late 1800s and also found out that Michael have 4 numbers on his wrist.
Chapter 50 - Lia was furious at Michael for hiding the numbers and walked out. Cassie then talked to Michael and explained why he didn't choose Michael and why she saw him as a friend.

Chapter 31-40 Summaries
Chapter 31 - The FBI interviewed Tory Howard and found out that the lawyer Tory was with was hired by the Shaws to protect Aaron Shaw since clearly Aaron is involve with Tory. Tory explained how hypnosis work and then the FBI asked how quickly they can learn hypnosis, she said that it takes years but some claim they can teach it in less than 10 minutes, she was then asked if she ever taught anyone then that is when the lawyer interrupted which indicates that she may have taught Aaron.
Chapter 32 - During the Tory Howard show and she took about a dozen volunteers from the crowd to be hypnotized, including Michael and the girl Aaron was with to the show. While being hypnotized, the girl Aaron was with walked up to the edge of the stage and chanted ,tertium, which means for the third time which was on the arrow of the third victim of the UNSUB, then the girl said, "I need nine."
Chapter 33 - The show came to a stop and all of them went backstage, then Beau charged at Aaron, in which they had a brawl, because Aaron brought Allison who was the girl who chanted the tertium. Then Tory came and asked both Aaron and beau to leave and told Aaron that their relationship was strictly professional, which indicates there was more before this show.
Chapter 34 - Sloane explained to Cassie how the UNSUB uses the Fibonacci sequence as dates and it's relates to the word, tertium. Allison said the word three times which indicates 3x3x3 which is 27 and then she said that she needed nine victims and the 27 is 27 dates and figured out what the killers weapon is going to be next.
Chapter 35 - Cassie got Dean caught up with the new information that they found. Cassie suggested that the word, tertium, has another meaning rather than just Eugene Lockhart being the third victim and Fibonacci sequence.
Chapter 36 - Dean called Briggs about what they found out then Briggs said they got a call at 3am that Beau was caught hitting the head security on the head that lead him to a coma and tried to write 4 numbers on his wrists. The two agents interrogated Beau while the 5 teens watch and before the interrogation ended, Briggs asked Beau if Tory ever taught him how to hypnotized someone.
Chapter 37 - After the interrogation, Sterling called them to see what they got during the interview and they have strong evidence that Beau didn't do it n purpose. They explained why Beau do what he did and that he panicked and did not want to be caught when he saw that the security was still alive and tried to write 4 digits in order not to get caught.
Chapter 38 - The FBI will have to convince the local PD that Beau isn't the killer and convince Mr. Shaw to close the grand ballroom until further notice and Cassie took a shower to clear her mind. While showering, something about the date June 21 that bothered her, not because that's the date her mother was killed, and it came to her that the killer of Judd's daughter was the same killer they are dealing with now.
Chapter 39 - Judd told the 5 the exact dares the Nightshade killer (Scarlett's murderer) had murder people and personally told the two FBI agents about the new evidence. Then Aaron came knocking on their suite door and told them that he knows what Sloane is doing for the FBI since their father told him and said that his father wanted Beau Donovan in jail.
Chapter 40 - Aaron pulled out a DVD that has security footage of a pawn shop where Victor, the head security, was attack and explained that Victor was the one who followed Beau and put a gun on Beau's head. So Beau only attacked Victor out of self-defense and if the footage go to the police then for sure Grayson Shaw will be in question, then Victor told the 5 that Victor is awake.

Chapter 21-30 Summaries
Chapter 21 - The agents went and questioned Thomas Wesley, while Cassie went to visit Sloane in their room since she was assigned to predict when and where the murderer will strike again. Then Cassie went back to the living room to join the others and saw that the agents went inside Thomas Wesley's and their connection was cut off.
Chapter 22 - The 4 Naturals, minus Sloane, went to the hotel Desert Rose where Wesley is staying and went to the pool area since Thomas has a great view of the pool from his room. They saw another PI, professor Daniel de la Cruz, then the signal came back with Thomas Wesley saying that Tory Howard special skill is hypnosis.
Chapter 23 - The 4 teens went back to their hotel and got in trouble with Judd. Sloane wrote on the big panoramic window they have and predicted where the killer is going to kill next.
Chapter 24 - Sloane drew the map of Las Vegas on their window and explained where the UNSUB will kill next and that the UNSUB was killing by the Fibonacci spiral. The UNSUB will kill next at the grand ballroom at the Majesty and Sloane said that the closer they get at the heart of the spiral the closer the murders will be.
Chapter 25 - The 5 teens were waiting for the agents to report to them if they found anything in the grand ballroom since they can't participate in the open field. Since they were bored, they decided to play the game, two truths and a lie, and Sloane and Cassie told the rest of the Naturals what they are going to through right now, then Judd came in and said there was no body.
Chapter 26 - Dean and Cassie profiled the UNSUB by using pictures of his/her victims and two question came up: why is the killer escalated and why he/she stopped?
Chapter 27 - Lia, Cassie, and Sloane went shopping so Sloane can forget about the case for a little while. Then Cassie's father called telling her the police are doing a DNA test with the traces of blood in the shawl she was buried in, then Sloane to the back door of the store with unpaid clothes.
Chapter 28 - Sloane had a panic attack so Lia and Cassie tried to calm her down, then another door in the Alley opened and out came Tory and Aaron arguing. Lia, Cassie and Sloane went back to the store and the head security took them to his office then Aaron came into the office and wanted to talk to the 3 of them.
Chapter 29 - Aaron knew all along that he has a half-sister but doesn't know how she looked like and he confronted Sloane that she was his half-sister since he could tell by the Shaw eyes that she Shaw's always have. Then Judd and Mr. Shaw came in the room.
Chapter 30 - Mr. Shaw sponsors the Naturals project so he knows what all the 5 Naturals do then he asked Sloane to stay away from his family.
Chapter 22 - The 4 Naturals, minus Sloane, went to the hotel Desert Rose where Wesley is staying and went to the pool area since Thomas has a great view of the pool from his room. They saw another PI, professor Daniel de la Cruz, then the signal came back with Thomas Wesley saying that Tory Howard special skill is hypnosis.

Chapter 11-20 Summaries
Chapter 11 - Cassie was about to look at the file in the hallway but Lia and Michael are occupying the it and they are talking about his abusive father which he was over at during the Christmas break. Then Dean came and profiled Cassie about how she can be there for people but not letting people be there for her and she told Dean they found a body.
Chapter 12 - The 5 teens and Judd went to the restaurant in the hotel and saw Camille Holt and Tory Howard, the two POI of Thomas Wesley's poker tournament game. Then they saw Aaron and his family and it seems that they have adopted a Korean child and Aaron noticed Camille Holt.
Chapter 13 - Sloane's dad noticed Sloane but did not do anything, like she wasn't at the same restaurant as he was. Then Sloane started scribbling on a napkin with the 4 digits that was on the victims wrist and said that the UNSUB was using the Fibonacci sequence.
Chapter 14 - Michael, Lia, and Cassie went to the casino and saw that there was an area that was under "maintenance," then Cassie realized that there was 3 bodies in 3 casinos in 3 days and realized it was January 4th which means there's a fourth body on the fourth day of January. Cassie got a confirmation when they saw the two FBI supervisors go into the maintenance area.
Chapter 15 - Cassie stayed up all night waiting for their supervisors call about the "maintenance" area in the casino but it was taking too long so she decided to look inside the USB. Then Dean joined her and they're about to open the USB.
Chapter 16 - Cassie and Dean looked at the skeleton picture of Cassie's mother (been dead for 5+ years) and they are profiling the pictures.
Chapter 17 - The morning came and Lia found out about Cassie's mother by looking at the laptop that was left open. Cassie woke up and Lia talked to Cassie that Michael and Sloane are already "effed" up since they came back from vacation and that it's not Cassie's turn to be, yet.
Chapter 18 - Agent Briggs came to tell them about the 4th body which belongs to Camille Holt and the number on her wrist was the next four digits in the Fibonacci sequence.
Chapter 19 - Both Agent Sterling and Briggs went to question Tory Howard while the Naturals watch what was happening through an ear piece and a hidden camera that is attached to Briggs. Tory answered most of the question truthfully, which Lia (Lie detector) confirmed, but lied about Camille choosing the new sushi restaurant at the Majesty's.
Chapter 20 - The agents continued to interrogate Tory Howard then came Beau Donovan, Tory is his foster sister. Beau was also interrogated and they said Camille's greatest enemy was Thomas Wesley.

Chapter 1-10 Summaries
Chapter 1 - It was New Year's Eve and Cassie and her family were having dinner then Cassie's father came with news about her dead mother.
Chapter 2 - The body of Cassie's mom was found with the red stone necklace that she always wear. Judd (The Naturals babysitter) picked her up from her grandmothers house to go back to "school," which means going back to the FBI.
Chapter 3 - Judd and Cassie discuss about her mother and she wants all the files of the crime scene of her mothers body that was found.
Chapter 4 - The other Naturals are on the plane with their FBI supervisors, Agent Briggs and Sterling. Cassie was deciding when she will tell her fellow Naturals about the founding of her mothers body.
Chapter 5 - The Naturals and the FBI supervisors looked over the murder case that they have. 3 bodies with 4 numbers on their wrist which is the UNSUB's"calling card," or so they thought.
Chapter 6 - They are about to land in Las vegas and it's where Sloane was born and raised which gave her the ability to be good with numbers. The 5 teens wouldn't be Naturals if they never had a messed up childhood and Sloane grew up to using statistics and math to figure out casino games.
Chapter 7 - Michael (emotion reader) came separately from the Naturals but arrived at the same tie as them. Sloane is more nervous and anxious when they went to the Majesty hotel and casino.
Chapter 8 - Aaron Shaw (son of the owner of the hotel and casino) lead the Naturals to their suite. Cassie and Sloane are roomed together and Sloane told Cassie that Aaron was her half-brother from her father side.
Chapter 9 - Agent Sterling went to their room to hand in the security footage of when Eugene Lockhart (the third victim) died and Sterling also handed Cassie a USB which contains the files about her mother's case.
Chapter 10 - The 5 teens review each of the victims and also reviewed the person of interest (PIO) in Thomas Wesley's poker tournament which one of the victim was involve in before her murder. They watch the security footage of the murder of Eugene Lockhart then they found that Camille Holt (player in the poker tournament) in the security footage.

A group of 5 teens who works for the FBI are called The Naturals and each teens have special abilities; statistics expert, living lie detector, emotion reader, and two profilers. There has been constant murders in Las Vegas everyday and in different casinos. The 5 teens and the FBI came to investigate and catch the UNSUB (murderer). Though this killer is different. The UNSUB would use different methods every time and these murders were done in public but the UNSUB can't be seen in the security footage. Also, the victims would have 4 numbers on their wrist and would have different methods on how it is embedded their body. The numbers are pieces of a famous sequence. At the same time, the police finally had a break through on the murder of Cassie Hobbes' mother.
Even though a person is going through a hard time in their life, the people close to them are there to support them and show it in a way that will work for the person. Since The Naturals wouldn't be the way they are without their complicated past.
